obliteration

Bobby Herron
Apr 12, 2021

I point my head skyward occasionally
because you never know
when an object of great size and density
could just drop right down and crash
into this earth on which I stand

I want to be prepared
for the spectacular apocalypse
in all it’s planet smashing glory

obliteration of all I know
just seems enormously significant
and so with half assed vigilance I watch
for falling bodies of heavenly magnitude

I’ve been standing in this spot
periodically for eons
since the days of molten rivers
and acidic clouds
and I can tell you that keeping an eye
on the sky and another on the earth
gives one a sense of balance and purpose

knowing full well that I -
a dust particle comparatively,
will never be granted the schematic
diagram of the universe
I remain here mostly
oscillating from death to dream
to digital to daylight

I write songs and perform them. I love writing, community building, my fam, books, fab food and sci fi — particularly post apocalyptic fiction.
